 Lunch & Learn – Elder Nutrition Education

It’s no secret that we have different nutritional needs at different points in our lives, but what does that mean for those of us who are 60 years old or better?  Bring a lunch and enjoy an enlightening conversation with others who want to know more about what it looks like to eat well as you age.

The group will be led by Mary Lavelle, a licensed dietitian with years of experience teaching people how to improve their health through better eating.

When:  Mondays, May 15 & June 19, 11:30 am – 12:30 pm

Where:  Normandale Lutheran Church, 6100 Normandale Road, Edina

Cost: Free – Participants should bring a bag lunch.

Our Blue Zone

Don’t miss this chance to hear Danny Buettner from the Blue Zones organization talk about their research into healthy living and how it has been, and can be put into practice to help communities live healthier lives.  A luncheon and group discussion will follow to look at the healthy living resources available to us in the Twin Cities Metro area and what needs to be done to improve public health in our “Life Radius”.  Come learn how the healthiest communities from around the world live, and what you can do to live healthier for longer.

A Matter of Balance

Powerful Tools for Caregivers

Are you feeling stretched caring for a loved one? This 6-week small-group education program is designed to provide you with a wealth of self-care tools that will help you take care of yourself while taking care of others. You will learn to reduce stress, improve your self-confidence, balance your life, better communicate your feelings, increase your ability to make tough decisions, and locate helpful resources. This program is available with limited funding support under Title III-E of the Older Americans Act.

Living Well with Chronic Conditions

Intended for those 60 years old or older and living with a chronic condition such as heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, asthma, bronchitis, chronic pain, high blood pressure and more, this workshop teaches a holistic approach to effectively managing chronic disease. Coping with pain and fatigue, eating healthy, managing sleep and more topics are covered to increase confidence, develop skills, and help participants manage their health.

Paths to Faithful Caregiving

If your spirituality is an important part of your life, we invite you to come together with other caregivers to gain helpful knowledge and tools as well as talk about the ways that your faith affects, and is affected by your caregiving. This faith-based caregiving curriculum increases participants’ confidence in their ability to manage caregiving tasks and challenges, drawing on their spirituality for strength.  The workshop is broken into five separate 2-hour modules that can be given as a series or one at a time.

Living Well with Diabetes

If you have type 2 diabetes and you want to learn more about managing your disease, this workshop is for you!  This 6-week class builds on your existing strengths to take control of your health in a welcoming and supportive environment. Caregivers and family members are encouraged to attend also!

*Our program fees are based on 50% of the total cost to provide these services.  A sliding fee scale is available!  Many individuals qualify for a reduced rate, based on income.  Please inquire.
