Exercise Programs

Strength & Serenity Summer Exercise Series

Join us every Tuesday for an alternating series of Gentle Yoga and Strength & Balance classes to improve your strength, balance, flexibility, and mental well-being.  Participants of all ages and ability levels are welcome and yoga poses will be offered in chairs as well as on the mat.

All classes will be led by Cathy O’Donnell, a certified group exercise instructor, laughter yoga teacher and personal trainer with years of experience.

Gentle Yoga:  May 2,16, 30, June 20, July 11, 25                                              Strength & Balance:  May 9, 23, June 6, 27, July 18, August 1

When:  Tuesdays, May 2 – August 1, 10:30 – 11:30 am

Where:  Normandale Lutheran Church, 6100 Normandale Road, Edina

Cost:  $5 for drop-in or a single session, $25 for all six Gentle Yoga OR all six Strength & Balance classes if you sign up before May 2, $45 for all twelve classes, Gentle Yoga AND Strength & Balance if you sign up before May 2.

T’ai Chi

T’ai Chi is a very old Chinese exercise characterized by a series of careful, precise, fluid movements, like a slow motion dance. Its purpose is to cultivate relaxation, balance, strength, and flexibility…both in body and mind.

When: Thursdays from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.
Where: Normandale Lutheran Church, 6100 Normandale Road, Edina (Fireside Room)
Cost: $8 per one hour class.

Healthy Moves for Aging Well

Healthy Moves is a 12-week, evidence based in-home exercise program. It provides older adults the opportunity to learn three to five simple exercises that they can do at home to build strength, flexibility and endurance. This program has been proven to increase balance and decrease falls in older adults.

Participants receive an in-home enrollment visit by our Health and Wellness Coordinator, along with a trained volunteer. A baseline test is completed, realistic goals are set and “red flags” are reviewed for safety, per program protocols.

Each participant is then supported by the trained volunteer motivational coach, who checks in by phone weekly to monitor progress and provide encouragement. This is what we call the “Ears and Cheers!” part of the program. Once the 12 weeks are complete, our Health and Wellness Coordinator returns to the home to repeat the baseline test and measure progress. Majority of participants have seen significant improvement and are very happy with the results and often move onto other programs.

Cost: Suggested Contribution of $60 – We have a Sliding Fee Scale*, please inquire!
