April is National Volunteer Month - a time to recognize and thank volunteers who lend their time, talent, voice and support to causes they care about. Debbie Ng has been a dedicated volunteer at Normandale Center for the past 7 years, serving as a valued member of the Saturday respite care team. She also volunteered at our luncheon event in September 2023. She is caring, patient and a wonderful listener that kindly engages with individuals that are in various stages of memory loss.
"It's volunteers like Debbie that make our programs successful and a place where our clients and their families feel welcomed and comfortable." - Cheryl, Engagement Coordinator
Volunteer Role
Respite care and memory companion
I’m passionate about Normandale Center’s work and supporting aging adults because…
My parents and my friends' parents are all aging adults, so I try my best to be as supportive as I can to all older adults. They have so much wisdom and life experience that I can learn from.
Fun Fact
I love being an auntie. My nephews Eli and Josh live in Seattle. They are 17 and almost 15 years old. They are amazing and are two of my biggest blessings in life.
Favorite Meal
My mom's homemade wonton soup
The thing I love most about volunteering with Normandale Center is…
The staff and volunteers are all very kind and pleasant. I very much enjoy interacting with them all.
When I’m not volunteering, I enjoy...
I love to follow sports, especially the Minnesota Vikings. I also enjoy eating out with friends and watching Netflix movies and TV shows.
We are always looking for volunteers. If you're interested in sharing your time and talents, contact Cheryl Nickelson, MSW, LGSW.
